Monster Character Design
The rough sketches below focus on the character’s composition, particularly how they hold items and position their hands, influenced by ASL (American Sign Language) to enhance expressive movement. Once the character’s pose is finalized, the design moves to Photoshop, where the monster is brought to life with bold colors. Photoshop tools like the Pen tool for shaping and detailing the character, the Shape tool for the eyes, and gradients for the flag and arms help create a dynamic and visually appealing design.

This Space Monster character design tells the tale of an alien’s crash-landing on Europa, a moon orbiting Jupiter. Inspired by the muscular form of a silverback gorilla, the character’s body is designed to communicate raw power and force. The illustration is an expressive exploration of strength, blending extraterrestrial features with the formidable, grounded energy of the gorilla.
