Character Design _ Rough Sketch

Baku the Nightmare Eater

Meet the Baku, a creature straight out of Japanese mythology, brought to life with a little Fantastic Illustration magic! In the rough sketch (to the left), I focused on posture and movement to show off the Baku’s unique, hybrid nature. I had fun picking a few animals to blend together with human-like traits for a totally fresh look. The final design features playful, swirling clouds in the hair and tail fur, giving the creature a dreamlike quality. The process involved sketching with pencil, adding dynamic linework with art pens, and finishing with watercolor to give the Baku a vibrant, magical finish.

UPA Character Design

This character design embraces the vibrant, bold lines of UPA stylization, bringing to life a quirky tale between General Shockandawe and Ali, the alien. General Shockandawe is desperately trying to rid himself of Ali, who is far too busy exploring and having fun to notice! Ali, an overly friendly and curious little alien, loves playing with anything he can find—especially General Shockandawe—who would prefer a bit more peace. The design captures the hilarious clash of intentions as Ali unknowingly overstays his welcome with the General!

Frog Pond Character Design

Introducing a whimsical character design inspired by a girl who uncovers the secret world of frogs! This concept art showcases her clever ability to blend into her new froggy surroundings, transforming into one with the pond’s magical creatures.

Cody the Cowpoke Character Design

Cody the Cowpoke is on the case! This lovable cowboy is out to find Sandy the Toothless Snake, who’s gone mysteriously missing, with the help of his trusty friend, the Lone Wolf in the Canyon. Designed for young audiences, these characters focus on teaching valuable lessons about nature, emotions, and creative problem-solving. The vibrant, fun designs bring a sense of adventure and excitement while encouraging kids to explore new ways of thinking and connecting with the world around them.
